Wiener PforteWiener Pforte Gap, Lower Austria/Vienna, gap through which the River Danube breaks into the Vienna basin, between Leopoldsberg Hill (alt. 425 m) and Kahlenberg Hill (alt. 484 m) on the right side of the river and Bisamberg Hill (alt. 358 m) on the left side. It was formed by erosion of the River Danube alongside a fault between the Vienna Woods and Bisamberg Hill. The Wiener Pforte was of great historical importance for traffic from west to east; its favourable position at the intersection with traffic routes from north to south was beneficial to the development of Vienna. Municipalities at the Wiener Pforte: Langenzersdorf (alt. 170 m) and Klosterneuburg (alt. 192 m).
