Wettersteingebirge


Wettersteingebirge Mountains, mountain range forming part of the North Tyrolean Limestone Alps extending along the German-Austrian border between the Tyrol and Bavaria, between the Fernpaß (1216 m) and Seefelder Sattel passes (Porta Claudia, 955 m). The highest elevation, Zugspitze Mountain (2,961 m), lies in Germany. South of the Wettersteingebirge Mountains and separated from it by the Gaistal valley are the Mieming Mountains. Mountain railways: Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, Ehrwalder Almbahn (from Ehrwald, 1,108 m, to Ehrwalder Alm, 1502 m). Skiing resorts near Zugspitze mountain and near Ehrwald. Wiener-Neustädter-Hütte mountain refuge (2,209 m).
