West, FranzWest, Franz, b. Vienna, Feb. 16, 1947, sculptor; created sculptures using various materials and objects. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with B. Gironcoli. Attracted particular notice in the 1980s with his welded chairs and sofas, which could be viewed as sculptures and also used as furniture. 1992-1994 professor at the Städelschule (academy of fine arts) in Frankfurt am Main.
