Weigel, HeleneWeigel, Helene, b. Vienna, May 12, 1900, d. Berlin (Germany), May 6, 1971. Actress, theatre manager. Studied for the stage in Vienna, then went to Frankfurt in 1918, later to M. Reinhardt's Deutsches Theater in Berlin. 1923 first worked with her future husband B. Brecht, with whom she emigrated to the USA. 1948 returned to East Berlin, where she founded the "Berliner Ensemble" in 1949 together with B. Brecht, which she managed until her death.
