Feuilletonist and librettist; father of Oskar Walzel. Lived in Vienna from 1847; from 1871, together with R. Genée, developed the text form for the classic Viennese operetta; 1884-1889 artistic director of the Theater an der Wien. Works: Libretti for J. Strauß, the Younger: Cagliostro in Wien, 1875; Eine Nacht in Venedig, 1883. - For F. von Suppé: Fatinitza, 1876; Boccaccio, 1879. - For K.
