Wächtler, LudwigWächtler, Ludwig, b. St. Pölten (Lower Austria), March 9, 1842, d. Vienna, July 31, 1916, architect. Studied at the Vienna Academy; 1865-1869 building supervisor of St. Stephen's Cathedral; worked with F. von Schmidt; from 1869 independent construction work in Austria, Bohemia and Hungary; later also worked on the maintenance of monuments. Apart from churches (Au, Lower Austria), public monuments (Sopron, Lednice), apartment buildings and tombs (Ebreichsdorf, Gars am Kamp), specialised in palaces (Buchberg am Kamp palace chapel, Ottenstein, Ebreichsdorf, Aspang, etc.). Worked with H. Ernst on numerous occasions (interior of Grafenegg palace, Breuner palace, Vienna).
