VKW, Vorarlberger Kraftwerke AG

VKW, Vorarlberger Kraftwerke AG, originated as a power plant of the Jenny & Schindler textile company in Kennelbach, which first engaged in public power supply in 1901. In 1998, VKW operated 7 large and 6 smaller hydroelectric power plants with a combined bottleneck output of 180 MW. VKW supplies over 155,000 customers in Vorarlberg and the neighbouring Allgäu region with power. It holds the right to obtain power from several plants along the River Danube and from the Walgau plant operated by Vorarlberger Illwerke AG. First power plant to be partially privatised through the sale of VKW shares (20% of the nominal capital) held by the province of Vorarlberg in 1988.
