Constitutional Amendments: Amendments to the federal or provincial constitutional laws are subject to stricter quorum requirements than apply for the transaction of ordinary business in the legislative bodies (Nationalrat (National Council), Landtage (provincial diets)); at the federal level: presence of half the members as opposed to one third for ordinary business, and a two-thirds majority vote as opposed to an absolute majority of votes; in addition, fundamental constitutional amendments (amendments to fundamental principles, Federal Constitution) have to be submitted to a Referendum.
