UnfallversicherungAccident Insurance, insurance branch of Social Insurance besides Health Insurance and Pension Insurance. Insurance benefits (therapeutic treatment for accident victims, rehabilitation, adjuvants, short-term payments, disability benefits, integrity settlement, surviving dependants' benefits) are granted in cases of industrial accidents and occupational diseases irrespective of who is responsible. Insurance institutions: AUVA (Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt, General Accident Insurance Company), Sozialversicherungsanstalt der Bauern (Social Insurance Company for Farmers), Versicherungsanstalt der Eisenbahner (Insurance Company for Railway Workers), Versicherungsanstalt öffentlich Bediensteter (Insurance Company for Civil Servants). Insurance cases 1998: 142,530. Insured persons: 5,524,000. Pensions: 110,405. Balance 1998: receipts ATS 14.3 billion, expenditures ATS 13.3 billion.
