TürnitzTürnitz, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Lilienfeld, alt. 466 m, pop. 2,170, area 145,47 km2, bi-seasonal tourism (69,123 overnight stays in 1992), situated at the confluence of the Rivers Türnitz and Traisen. - Advanced-level commercial school, 2 recreation homes, sports facility; cardboard factory, saw mills, production of moulded ledges, construction of agricultural machines. - Since the late Middle Ages Türnitz has been an important way station for pilgrims on their way to Mariazell. Late Gothic parish church with Baroque defensive tower, late Gothic baptismal font, tombstones (17th /18th century) and Rococo interior, altar painting by J. J.
