Vienna, July 22, 1924, chemist. 1963 to 1994 University Professor for Biochemistry at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna; over 100 scientific publications in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry; focused mainly on the chemistry of blood types, biochemical genetics and biologically active peptides and proteins. 1985 to 1987 president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, 1987 to 1989 Minister of Science and Research. Awarded the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1975. Works: Herstellung linearer Phosphor-32-Quellen hoher spezif. Aktivität, 1953; Beiträge zur Konstitutionsermittlung biolog. aktiver Polypeptide und Proteine, 1956 (with H.
