Torstensson, Lennart© Copyright Lennart Torstensson, engraving by S. Furck, 1644 Torstensson, Lennart, b. Torstena (Sweden), Aug. 17, 1603, d. Stockholm (Sweden), April 7, 1651, Swedish general. 1641 took over the supreme command of the Swedish troops in the Thirty Years' War and won the battle of Jankau (now in Czech Republic) on March 6, 1645. On March 17 he crossed the border to Lower Austria, conquered Krems, Stein and Korneuburg and on April 14 reached the bridge over the Danube at Vienna.
