Tittel, Ernst, b. Sternberk, Czech Republic (then Sternberg), April 26, 1910, d. Vienna, July 28, 1969, composer, organist, musicologist. As of 1936 teacher of theory of music (1954 lecturer, 1961 professor) at the Vienna Musikhochschule*; Wrote especially church music; famous for his revised edition of the "Gradus ad Parnassum" ("Der neue Gradus", 1959) by J. J. Fux. 1952 Austrian State Prize.
