ThierseeThiersee, Tirol, municipality in the district of Kitzbühel, alt. 678 m, pop. 2,555 (pop. in 1981: 2,263), area 108.61 km2, summer tourist location (294,079 overnight stays) in the valley of the Thiersee Stream, west of Kufstein near the Bavarian border; Vorder-Thiersee and Hinter-Thiersee; close to Thiersee Lake (area 26 ha, depth 13 m) with beach for swimming and sports grounds. -Ackernalm tollgate, customs authority, dialysis clinic, theatre for Passion plays; construction industry. - Parish churches in Hinter-Thiersee (first documented mention in 1435, rebuilt in 1684), Vorder-Thiersee (first documented mention in 1315, rebuilt in 1703 after having been destroyed by fire) and Landl (1794/1795); Unterinntal farmhouses; Passion plays performed since 1799, with interruption during the Second World War, resumed in 1955 (every 6 years, latest performance in 1993).
