Tautenhayn, JosefTautenhayn, Josef, b. Vienna, May 5, 1837, d. Vienna, April 1, 1911, sculptor and medal coiner; father of the sculptor Josef T. the Younger and of Karl Tautenhayn. From 1862 engraver of medals at the Central Mint, from 1874 director of the engraver´s college and 1881-1905 teacher at the Vienna Academy. Produced numerous portrait and commemorative medals, artistic works and ornamental sculptures for the monumental buildings on the Vienna Ringstraße (e.g. for the University, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and Parliament).
