London (United Kingdom), Jan. 8, 1948, singer; famous lyric tenor, composer; actor in Graz and Linz; after his debut in Chemnitz 1913 came to Dresden in the same year and to Berlin 1919; from 1925 member of the Vienna Staatsoper; interpreter of Mozart´s work at the Salzburg Festival; also successful as a singer in musical films. Was a friend of F. Lehár, who included tenor parts in his operettas for him; went on world-wide tours. 1938 emigrated to London (British nationality 1940). Literature: D. Napier Tauber, R.
