Der Tannhäuser, miniature of the gospel book in Heidelberg "Manessische Liederhandschrift"




Tannhäuser, der, b. around 1200, d. around 1270, minnesinger, 1235-1246 lived at the court of Duke Friedrich II in Vienna (as well as, for example, Neidhart von Reuenthal). Wrote realistic minnelieder, dance songs and gnomic poems; was the hero of the popular legend about the Tannhäuser and Venus, the origins of which lie in the 13th century.
