TAMROCK VOEST-ALPINE Bergtechnik Ges. m. b. H.


TAMROCK VOEST-ALPINE Bergtechnik Ges. m. b. H., Mechanical engineering company, manufactures special mining and tunnelling machines. Headquartes at Zeltweg, Styria; originated as a steel works and rolling mill founded by Hugo Henckel v. Donnersmark in 1851 and taken over in 1881 by Oesterreichisch-Alpine Montangesellschaft. As part of the latter the company was nationalised in 1946 (Nationalisation) and merged with VOEST (Vereinigte Österreichische Eisen- und Stahlwerke) in 1973. Privatised in 1996 (Privatisation) when the Finnish Tampella group acquired a 100% interest. In 1999 the company had a staff of 655 worldwide; sales in 1998 amounted to ATS 1.5 billion, the export share to 98%.
