Südtirol-PaketSouth Tyrol Package: The conflicts between Austria and Italy were sparked by the issue of the protection of the German-speaking and the Ladin-speaking population of the South Tyrol. In 1969 the so-called South Tyrol Package was signed. It entered into force in 1972 and obliged Italy to create the legal basis for the autonomy of the South Tyrol. Once Italy had fulfilled the stipulations of the package, Austria declared the end of the dispute on June 11, 1992 (South Tyrol).
