Strampfer, Friedrich© Copyright Friedrich Strampfer, photo Strampfer, Friedrich, b. Grimma (Germany), May 23, 1823, d. Graz (Styria), April 8, 1890, actor, theatre manager. Originally in Weimar, 1862-1869 manager of the "Theater an der Wien" (operettas by Offenbach); 1870 acquired a theatre in the 1st district of Vienna, called it "Strampfer Theater" and managed it 1871-1874; engaged actors like A. Girardi, K. Blasel, F. Mitterwurzer and M. Geistinger. 1878 became manager of the "Comic Opera" (Ringtheater) and of the Carltheater, but went bankrupt; 1881 emigrated to the USA, 1888 returned to Vienna; worked partly as a writer, 1889 head of a theatre school in Graz.
