StephanskroneSaint Stephen´s Crown: Crown which was sent by Pope Sylvester II for the coronation of Saint Stephen as King of Hungary in 1001. It has been missing since 1279. The present Saint Stephen´s Crown was manufactured under Stephan V (1270-1272) and consists of 2 Hungarian women´s crowns of the 12th /13th century and of Byzantine parts. In 1945, it was handed over to American troops in Mattsee and taken to the United States; in 1978, it was returned to Hungary. Imperial Crowns, Erzherzogshut. Literature: É. Kovács and Z.
