Steinernes MeerSteinernes Meer Mountains, mountain ridge forming the border between Salzburg and Bavaria (Germany), heavily karstic limestone plateau of the Salzburg Limestone Alps with steep slopes in the south and southeast; large dolines, karrenfelds and several caves; nature preserve. The plateau, which comprises 160 km2, is drained underground. The highest peaks are situated in the south of the Steinernes Meer Mountains: Selbhorn Mountain (alt. 2,642 m), Schönfeldspitze Peak (alt. 2,653 m), Breithorn Mountain (alt. 2,504 m). To the north of the Steinernes Meer Mountains are the Hagengebirge Mountains; Lake Königssee (Bavaria) is located at the northern foot. Mountain refuges: Riemannhaus (alt. 2,177 m) and Ingolstädter Haus (alt. 2,119 m).
