Jörg Seusenhofer: Light horse armour of Emperor Ferdinand I, 1547 (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna)

Seusenhofer, Jörg, d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Sept. 30, 1580. One of the most important armourers of the 16th century, son of Hans Seusenhofer. Mentioned in 1528, Ferdinands I's master of heraldry and armourer in 1536; took over his father's workshop in Innsbruck in 1555 and successfully continued its tradition; in his works he successfully went beyond the strict style of Early Renaissance and produced more animated forms characteristic of High Renaissance. His elegant designs surpassed most contemporary works. His death put an end to the family tradition of armour-making.
