Munich (Germany), Nov. 14, 1848, sculptor; son of Franz Jakob Schwanthaler; principal master of classical sculpture in Germany, busiest artist of Classicism. Works: Salzburg: Mozart monument, 1842; "Nymphe" in Anif Castle, around 1840. - Vienna: Austria fountain on the Freyung, 1844-1846. - Munich: giant statue of the Bavaria and statues of princes.
