Schwanthaler, Johann FranzSchwanthaler, Johann Franz, b. Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria), Aug. 16, 1683, d. Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria), July 3, 1762. Sculptor; son of Thomas Schwanthaler, brother of Franz Matthias Schwanthaler, father of Johann Peter Schwanthaler the Elder. Artistic style was strongly influenced by his father, whose atelier in Ried he took over in 1710. Works: Altar in Pötting, around 1730 (principal work); statues in the parish churches in Ried im Innkreis, Gurten, Lohnsburg, Pram, Schildorn, Waldzell; Mourning-of-Christ group in Mehrnbach; group of statues in St. Thomas near Ried (all in Upper Austria).
