Schuppen, Jakob vanSchuppen, Jakob van, b. Paris (France), Jan. 26, 1670, d. Vienna, Jan. 29, 1751. Painter at the imperial court. Called to Vienna in 1716; in 1726 Karl VI made him director of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he introduced fundamental organisational changes. Works: Vienna: Portraits and altarpieces (Karlskirche church, Salesianerinnenkirche church, before 1727); ceiling paintings in the Eroica hall of the Dietrichstein-Lobkowitz Palace.
