Schobergruppe

Schober Mountains, glaciated Alpine massif of the Central Alps, located between the Iseltal and Mölltal valleys, with Petzeck (3,283 m), Roter Knopf (3,281 m) and Hochschober (3,242 m) mountains. Its main crest forms the border between Carinthia and East Tirol; its Carinthian section is part of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The Schober mountains, surrounding the Debanttal valley in a horseshoe shape, comprise about 100 small and larger cirque lakes, e.g. in Tirol: Barrensee, Alkuser See and Neualpseen, in Carinthia: Wangenitzsee, Kreuzsee and Gradensee. The Peischlachtörl mountain (2,484 m) connects the Schober mountains with the Glocknergruppe mountains; consists mainly of mica schist. Zettersfeldbahn (monocable ropeway) from Lienz (alt. 725 m) up to the Zettersfeld mountain (1,812 m); skiing region. Mountain refuges: Wangenitzseehütte (alt. 2,508 m), Hochschoberhütte (alt. 2,322 m), Lienzer Hütte (alt. 1,974 m).
