Schindler, Johann JosefSchindler, Johann Josef, b. St. Pölten (Lower Austria), July 28, 1777, d. Vienna, July 22, 1836. Landscape painter, illustrator, etcher and lithographer; father of Carl Schindler. Studied at the Vienna Academy, from 1810 art teacher in Vienna. Study trips to Upper Italy and the Salzkammergut; several landscape and military series, which were widely distributed as lithographs. Literature: J. J.
