Schindler, Alexander Julius Pseudonym: Julius von der TraunSchindler, Alexander Julius (pseudonym: Julius von der Traun), b. Vienna, Sept. 26, 1818, d. Vienna, March 16, 1885. Politician, poet and novelist. Until 1854 public prosecutor in Graz, then administrator of the Wolfsberg estate in Carinthia, advocate and secretary-general of the state-run railways; member of the provincial parliament and the Nationalrat for the "national" opposition. One of the leading representatives of political poetry in Austria. ("Carte blanche", 1862), author of historical epic poems and novellas. Further works: Poems: Die Rosenegger Romanzen, 1852, (31876 with the title "Gedichte"); Unter den Zelten, 1853; poems, 1871. - Epic poems: Die Gründung von Klosterneuburg, 1854; Salomon, König von Ungarn, 1873; Toledaner Klingen, 1876. - Novel: Goldschmiedkinder, 1880. - Novellas, tales, travelogues.
