Scherer, GeorgScherer, Georg, b. Schwaz (Tyrol), Nov. 3, 1540 (1539?), d. Linz (Upper Austria), Nov. 26, 1605, court chaplain and missionary, Jesuit. 1567-1594 chaplain at St. Stephen´s Cathedral, 1577-1600 court chaplain at the Vienna Hofburgkapelle and Rector at the Vienna Jesuit college (1590-1594). Precursor of Prokop von Templins and Abraham a Sancta Clara; as a follower of the counter-reformation he developed a style of preaching that people could easily understand.
