Schell, Maria MargaretheSchell, Maria (Margarethe), b. Vienna, Jan. 15, 1926, (film) actress. Sister of Carl, Maximilian and Immy Schell, married to V. Relin. First film part at the age of 16 ("Steinbruch", 1942), singing and acting lessons in Zürich, engagements in Switzerland and in Austria, then A. Korda took her to Great Britain. In the 1950s she appeared chiefly in German productions, frequently played the partner of O. W. Fischer. Her film work in Hollywood (e.g. with G. Cooper, G. Ford and Y. Brunner) brought her international acclaim. Since the 1960s has concentrated on the theatre and on television (TV series). Further works: films: Der Engel mit der Posaune, 1948; Der träumende Mund, 1952; Solange du da bist, 1953; Die letzte Brücke, 1953; Le notti bianche, 1957; The Brothers Karamazov, 1957; Cimarron, 1960. - "... und wenn´s a Katz is!", 1995 (autobiography).
