Scheit, KarlScheit, Karl, b. Svinov, Czech Republic (then Schönbrunn), April 21, 1909, d. Vienna, Nov. 22, 1993, guitarist (lutenist). 1933-1984 taught at the Vienna Musikhochschule* and at the Vienna Conservatory. Popularised the guitar as a solo instrument. One of the pioneers of performing in a historically authentic manner (e.g. within the "Schola antiqua" with J. Mertin and G. Leonhardt); numerous awards and prizes. Works: arrangements of old masters; teaching materials for the guitar. Literature: E. W. Partsch, K. S., 1994.
