Scheda, Josef Ritter von


Scheda, Josef Ritter* von, b. Padova (Italy), Sept. 23, 1815, d. Mauer (now Vienna), July 23, 1888, general and geographer. His use of copperplate engraving and lithography influenced map printing in Austria, was the first to apply outline colour printing in lithography. Produced maps of excellent quality.


Works: general map of Europe 1 : 2,592,000 in 25 sheets, 1845-1847; small-scale map of the Austrian imperial state 1 : 576,000 in 20 sheets, 1856-1869; map of the Austro-Hungarian empire 1 : 1,000,000, 1873.
