Schattenburg


Schattenburg, Vorarlberg, situated above the town of Feldkirch, one of the best-preserved castles in Central Europe, once the main residence of the counts of Montfort. Probably built around 1200, extended in the early 15th century and around 1500, additions built in the 17th century. Frescoes in the castle chapel dating back to the 16th century; contains a museum of local history, some rooms with Gothic panelling (since 1912).
