Scharang, MichaelScharang, Michael, b. Kapfenberg (Styria), Feb. 3, 1941, narrative writer, essayist, writer of film scripts and radio plays. Studied philosophy, art history and theatre studies. 1973-1989 member of the Austrian Communist Party (KPÖ). Critical prose and essays on political and social issues ("Charly Traktor", novel, 1973, "Das Wunder Ö. oder Wie es in einem Land immer besser und dabei immer schlechter wird", 1989). Further works: novels: Der Sohn des Landarbeiters, 1976; Der Lebemann, 1979; Auf nach Amerika, 1992; Das jüngste Gericht des Michelangelo Spatz, 1998. - Prose: Schluß mit dem Erzählen und andere Erzählungen, 1970; Bleibt Peymann in Wien oder kommt der Kommunismus wieder, 1993.
