Sankt Georgenberg-Fiecht


Sankt Georgenberg-Fiecht, Tirol, municipality of Vomp in the district of Schwaz. Monastery built on a hill around 950, accessible only across a bridge, handed over to the Benedictines in 1138. Church (1654-1660), reconstructed in Baroque style between 1733 and 1735. After a fire in 1705 only 2 wings of the original monastery remained, in which Cardinal M. Klesl was imprisoned between 1619 and 1622. J. Abfalter and S. Schweikart built a new monastery between 1707 and 1710 in the hamlet of Fiecht in the Inn Valley. Hartmannstab crosier (12th  century) in the museum.
