Roth, GerhardRoth, Gerhard, b. Graz (Styria), June 24, 1942, narrative writer, playwright, essayist. Studied medicine and mathematics and worked as a programmer and head of organisation at the official computer centre in Graz, since 1976 free-lance writer. in his very first novel "die autobiographie des albert einstein" (1971) a keynote of his works becomes apparent: the futile efforts of the hero. In his opus magnum, the "Archive des Schweigens" consisting of 7 books, R. is concerned with the historical, political and social aspects of the Austrian past and their effects on the present.
