Rosaliengebirge


Rosaliengebirge Mountains, northeastern continuation of the Central Alps, at the border between Lower Austria and Burgenland; wooded mountain ridge consisting of gneiss, slate and some limestone. Highest elevation: Heuberg Mountain (748 m); Rosalia chapel. Castle of Forchtenstein, built on a steep limestone rock on the eastern foothill of the Rosaliengebirge. Fruit growing on the wind-sheltered cross-valley slopes in Burgenland. The Rosaliengebirge is crossed by a minor road (running from Mattersburg in Burgenland to Hochwolkersdorf in Lower Austria).
