Judenburg (Styria), Nov. 1, 1938, graduate engineer and politician (Austrian People´s Party, ÖVP). 1972-1980 head of the Styrian, then until 1983 of the Austrian farmers´ association, 1983-1987 Landesrat of Styria; 1987-1989 Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, 1989-1991 Federal Chairman of the Austrian People´s Party (Österreichische Volkspartei, ÖVP), Federal Minister of Federalism and Administration Reform and Vice Chancellor. 1975-1983; 1991-1993 member of the Nationalrat, since 1993 chairman of the Raiffeisen-Landesbank Steiermark, since 1994 deputy president of the Austrian Raiffeisenverband association.
