Reißeckgruppe


Reißeck Mountains, Carinthia, unglaciated southern part of the Ankogel Mountain Range, Alpine massif of the Central Alps, consists mainly of gneiss. South-eastern extension of the Hohe Tauern Range, between the lower Mölltal and Maltatal valleys; highest peak: Reißeck mountain (2,965 m); numerous mountain lakes, e.g. Radlsee (Hoher See), Zwenberg Lakes and Mühldorf Lakes. Summits: Sonnblick (2,515 m; not to be confused with the glaciated mountain of the same name in the Hohe Tauern Range), Tristenspitz (2,930 m), Hohe Leiter (2,774 m). Reißeckhütte refuge (2,287 m). - The Reißeck-Kreuzeck group of power stations of the Österreichische Draukraftwerke-AG in Carinthia comprises 3 barrages with separate catchment areas and different heads. The total catchment area is 163.5 km2, the annual-storage reservoirs have an energy capacity of 68.6 million kWh. The head between the Reißeck annual storage reservoir and the Kolbnitz generating station in the Mölltal valley is the highest in the world (1,772.5 m) used for the generation of electricity. - Reißeckbahn (cable railway), Höhenbahn (narrow-gauge railway leading through pipe galleries, highest private railway in Europe).
