Redtenbacher, Ludwig, b. Kirchdorf an der Krems (Upper Austria), June 10, 1814, d. Vienna, Feb. 8, 1876, entomologist, physician. Brother of Josef Redtenbacher; initially professor at Prague University, from 1860 director of the Museum of Natural History in Vienna; wrote significant works on the beetle species of Austria.


Works: Die Gattungen der dt. Käfer-Fauna nach der analyt. Methode, 1845; Fauna austriaca: Die Käfer, 1849 (31874).

Literature: Almanach der Ö. Akad. d. Wiss. 26, 1876; ÖBL.
