Redlich, OswaldRedlich, Oswald, b. Innsbruck (Tyrol), Sept. 17, 1858, d. Vienna, Jan. 20, 1944, historian; father of Virgil Redlich. >From 1882 professor at Innsbruck University, 1893-1929 in Vienna, from 1926 head of the Department of Austrian History Research (Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung), 1919-1938 president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, 1918/19 interim director of the National Archives, prevented its dispersion amongst the successor states of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Played an important role in numerous scientific projects and continued the "Österreichische Geschichte" by A. Huber up to 1740.
