Engelhartszell (Upper Austria), March 11, 1928, writer of literature for children and young people. 1956-1961 head of the Austrian office of the "International Catholic Migration Commission" in Geneva; editor of the "Indianerbibliothek" aimed at preserving the traditions and culture of the North American Indians; is concerned in her works with political and historical issues, but also writes fairy tales and fantasy stories. Awarded the Austrian State Prize several times and the Austrian Merit Prize for Children's and Young People's Literature in 1986.
