Rechberg, Count Johann Bernhard von; b. Regensburg (Germany), July 17, 1806, d. Schwechat (Lower Austria), Feb. 26, 1899, diplomat and politician. Austrian envoy to Sweden, Brazil etc. until 1853, 1859-1864 Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1859-1861 Prime Minister; supported Prince C. W. L. Metternich and opposed the liberal politics of A. v. Schmerling . Could not bring Bismarck to accept Austria´s position in the Schleswig-Holstein question (German-Danish War).
