Pomis, Giovanni Pietro de


Pomis, Giovanni Pietro de, b. Lodi (Italy), 1569/70, d. Graz (Styria), March 6, 1633, court painter and architect in "inner Austria" (Innerösterreich). From around 1595 worked in Graz; representative of late Mannerist forms in painting and architecture. His main architectural work, the mausoleum of Ferdinand II in Graz, started in 1614, is considered one of the most important Austrian monuments of this era. His medal designs are also of artistic importance.


Works: Graz: Mariahilfer Church, 1607-1611; Altar pictures (St. Antony´s Church, All Saints Church, Mariahilfer Church, Cathedral).
