Piccolomini, Prince Ottavio (Octavio), b. Florence (Italy), Nov. 11, 1599, d. Vienna, Aug. 11, 1656, Duke of Amalfi, imperial general in the Thirty Years' War. Wallenstein´s confidant, reported his secret plans to the imperial court and was a leader in the conspiracy against Wallenstein; after his murder obtained a part of his property as a reward. With M. Gallas defeated the Swedish near Nördlingen in 1634. 1648 became field marshal and 1650 Imperial Prince.
