Piccaver, Alfred (real name: A. Peckover), b. Long Sutton (United Kingdom), Feb. 24, 1884, d. Vienna, Sept. 23, 1958, Kammersänger* (tenor). Debut 1907 in Prague, from 1910 at the Vienna Court Opera, where he was 1st tenor 1912-1937. Left Austria 1938 to live in London, returned 1955. Often compared with Caruso.
