Peymann, ClausPeymann, Claus, b. Bremen (Germany), June 7, 1937, director and theatre manager. 1971 founded the theatre "Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer" (Berlin), 1974-1979 managed the Württembergische Staatstheater theatre in Stuttgart and 1980-1986 Bochumer Schauspielhaus theatre. As manager of the Vienna Burgtheater from 1986-1999 P. made profound and in many cases controversial changes. Despite vehement criticism, his term of office was extended in 1989, 1992 and 1994 (until 1999). Noted as a director of plays by T. Bernhard and numerous classical works. 1991 Kainz Medal.
