Petronell-Carnuntum - Pezzl, Johann (3/25)
Petrovic, Madeleine Pettenbach

Petrus, Heiliger

Petrus, Saint., feast day June 29 (together with Paulus), "Prince of the Apostles". His feast day is an ancient "Lostag" (critical days on which the weather is considered to be crucial in determining the weather of the coming season). In Upper Austria and Carinthia, fires are lit on the evening of June 29 and straw dummies (Peterl, Tattermann) are burnt; another ancient custom is Scheibenschlagen. Around Steyr, "Taganläuten" used to be a popular custom; men had to stand under a pear tree, women under an apple tree.
