Perutz, Leo LeopoldPerutz, Leo (Leopold), b. Prague (Czech Republic), Nov. 2, 1882, d. Bad Ischl (Upper Austria), Aug. 25, 1957, novelist, narrative writer, dramatist and mathematician. Lived in Vienna until 1938, emigrated to Palestine. P. became famous with his novel "Zwischen neun und neun" (1918). Then wrote a series of historical and contemporary novels, which made him one of the most successful authors between the two world wars. In exile wrote "Nachts unter der steinernen Brücke" (1953), which combines separate novellas in one novel. After World War II P. stayed intermittently in Austria again.
